Fortune (Four-Tune)
has indeed smiled down
upon us, instilling all of us with a great
love of music
and blessing us by bringing our four kindred spirits
together. We have been together
(with minor reorganization) since
the summer of 1995.
Among the four of us
we have over 50 years’ experience singing in the Barbershop style.
Marilyn Hoppman-Smith, tenor, is also our
costume designer and is a
retired teacher and Home Economist. Jo Ann Perry, lead, keeps the
computers in 6 classrooms and 5 student labs working at UNM. Joneve
Bender, bass, is an educated-to-teach “music” person (BME) and is an
Administrative Coordinator. She can arrange or rearrange music to
suit our needs. Jeanie Henry, baritone, has the most expressive
face of all of us. She has the hardest part to sing, but she can
learn her part better and faster than any of us! There is a saying
that “old baris never die, they just get “carried away”. Jeanie is
a Registered Nurse.
We have a song in
our hearts, a smile on our faces, and our heads in the clouds! A
quote from Marilyn’s husband regarding our practice
sessions....”There must be something illegal about this. You have
entirely too much fun!!”
Our primary goal is
to put a smile on your face and a song in your heart. Our
repertoire includes music from the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, pop, rock,
religious, patriotic and special occasions -- all done in Barbershop
style.
